Environmental Informatics between Sustainability and Change

Within the scope of the INFORMATICS 2014 conference: "Big Data – complexity master" (22nd-26th of September, 2014 in Stuttgart, Germany) the second workshop "Environmental Informatics between Sustainability and Change" (UINW, Umweltinformatik zwischen Nachhaltigkeit und Wandel) will take place. The Call for Papers is opened. Contributions should enclose approx. 8-10 pages and be written in German or English:
  • Submission of contributions for the Workshops: 22nd of April, 2014
  • Decision on the acceptance of the Workshop of contribution: 20th of May, 2014
  • Submission of the printable version: 23rd of June, 2014
In the complexity of  the data amounts in the environmental area or energy sector ranges of topics arise:
  • very big data amounts in environmental by Geographic information systems (GIS)
  • Open Data in environmental information systems
  • Operational environmental information systems (BUIS)
  • Climate change and adaptation
  • Modelling and simulation of big records
  • Environmental information systems and energy information systems
  • Connections between environmental data and health data
  • Smart meter and Smart Grid
  • Mass data storage in energy systems incl. security aspects
  • ...
The workshop should make a contribution to this field of environmental informatics and discuss current trends, but also sharpen the interdisciplinary and trans-disciplinal focus and think outside the box.

Environmental Informatics in the Society of Informatics

The aim of the informatics discipline environmental informatics is the exchange of views to the analysis and to solution of environmental problems with the help of current methods of the information technologies and communication technologies (ICT). Besides, an increasingly more important area is the energy subject being connected with environmental subjects. Here, the increase would be to be called exemplarily by energy efficiency by means of software, but also the energy-conscious software development standing with it in connection.
Therefore, the environmental informatics is confronted on account of the dynamic use field environment protection and sustainability as well as the continual advancement of the ICT to considerable challenges.
